Oakman Child Care & Development Staff

High quality caregivers are the heart and soul of every good day care center, and substitute caregivers are no exception the required entry-level training in early childhood education and infant and toddler care, CPR (Cardio-pulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, the prevention of Shaken Baby Syndrome and SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome), and detecting and reporting Child Abuse.

  • Special emphasis is placed on the development and coordination of large and small muscles. With this goal in mind we have carefully selected the finest materials and equipment available today.
  • Children have the freedom and opportunity to use their abundant energy as they participate in thoughtfully supervised activities.
  • Well-balanced hot meals are attractively served in cheerful surroundings. The mealtime atmosphere encourages your child to explore a variety of nutritious foods. The menu is posted each month in the office and sent home with each child.
  • At naptime a comforting and peaceful environment promotes rest and relaxation with naptime stories and music. For a personal touch from home see information under "things your child will need."

Toilet Learning

Children do not need to be "toilet trained" to participate in preschool child care activities. Toilet learning is as individual to a child as learning to walk. It should be a positive experience for a child, and will take only a short time when the child is ready. There is no "right" age by which all children should be using the toilet; problems in toilet learning usually arise because adults don't pay attention to the child's lack of readiness. You should begin your program of toilet learning at home when you feel your child is ready. I am happy to assist you as your child learns to use the toilet; see our toilet learning policy for our complete toilet learning procedure, as well as tips to make toilet learning easier for you and your child. Children will never be punished for lapses in toilet learning.
